| 20 Jan 2024

In the bustling roads of the *Capital* , a cohort of Baloch protestors, including resilient women standing steadfast against the unforgiving weather, has captured the attention of whole *nation* and *international* *media.* Their unwavering commitment sheds light on the pervasive issues of rights abuses, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan. To gain a comprehensive understanding, it’s crucial to delve into the various perspectives surrounding these protests.

Speculations about external agencies supporting the demonstrations demand careful consideration, as sweeping generalizations may oversimplify the intricate dynamics at play. The motivations driving these protests might originate from genuine concerns, with the protestors themselves emerging as the true catalysts behind this movement!

Local voices in Balochistan echo a sentiment deeply rooted in feelings of injustice and torture, attributing their dismal economic and social conditions to perceived neglect by the state. The narrative weaves a tale of abandonment, where the government is seen as forsaking the welfare of Balochistan’s inhabitants. Contrastingly, Balochistan’s political elite and feudal class present a different perspective, emphasizing the province’s challenges arising from a scarcity of resources allocated by the state. Their argument pivots on the need for increased funds to address the economic and social disparities within the region, framing the issues as consequences of insufficient resources rather than outright neglect. In response, the state contends that Balochistan now receives an equitable share of funds post the 18th Amendment, supported by the *National Finance Commission (NFC* ) report, which highlights a significant increase in annual funds transferred to the province.

Beyond economic and social disparities, Balochistan grapples with the haunting issue of missing persons and reported deaths. A nuanced examination reveals historical complexities, such as the Afghan Jihad era, where individuals from Balochistan actively participated and many of them eventually died or lost.

The presence of Afghan refugees during the Afghan Jihad era and the porous borders connecting Balochistan with Iran have led to illegal border crossings and complexities in attributing responsibility for missing persons and deaths. Balochistan’s geopolitical significance, particularly in the context of the *China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),* makes it a target for foreign interference. As  U.S,India and many foreign players do not want China to flourish by *CPEC* and also do not want Pakistan to move on by this project. However, the looming shadow of missing persons and reported deaths adds layers of complexity to the narrative. The aftermath of the Afghan Jihad era reveals a painful reality – numerous individuals were lost during that tumultuous period. The state argues that it cannot be held responsible for all of them, given the vast international borders, particularly with Iran, which present challenges as people traverse them illegally through intricate routes like “dunky channels.”Such statements necessitate a critical lens, considering the multiplicity of perspectives at play.

Digging into the historical context, allegations suggest that local elites received funds in return for supporting Kalboshin Yadif’s agenda of separating Balochistan from Pakistan. The distinct aroma of separatism lingers in the Balochistan mountains, adding a poignant dimension to the struggle. An unsettling revelation emerges from intelligence agencies, pointing to a map on the CIA website that once depicted the separation of Balochistan from Pakistan. Despite Pakistan’s persistent efforts to have it removed, the map remains, suggesting a broader international interest in fostering unrest in the region.

The arrest of *Kalboshin* *Yadif* serves as a poignant *reminder* of the intricate web of regional politics and international interests. The rugged mountains of Balochistan, unfortunately, bear witness to more than just geological formations; they carry the whiff of separatism. The arrest of individuals with affiliations to India’s *RAW* and America’s *CIA* underscores the broader international agendas at play. The interconnectedness of these elements is further accentuated by the presence of maps on the CIA website that once depicted the separation of Balochistan from Pakistan. In *2017* , the appearance of “Free Balochistan” posters on *London buses* raised eyebrows and hinted at international involvement in the Balochistan issue. This incident suggested external support for separatist sentiments in Balochistan, adding a layer of complexity to the region’s challenges.

forces at play. Agencies with vested interests may seek to exploit local grievances to undermine the stability of Pakistan. Balochistan’s potential for development can only be realized through collaborative efforts that prioritize the welfare of its people over political agendas and external interference.

The challenges facing Balochistan are multifaceted, demanding a holistic approach for meaningful progress. The ongoing protests shed light on several critical issues that need urgent attention from both the provincial and federal authorities. Security remains a top concern, with demands for increased measures to ensure the safety of the people. Calls for fair trials and transparent legal processes to determine the fate of disappeared individuals underscore the need for accountability and justice.

Economic disparities within Balochistan are evident, with its vast geographical expanse compared to its relatively smaller population. Balancing development initiatives based on both population and area considerations is crucial for equitable progress across the province. Infrastructure development, particularly the uneven distribution of basic amenities like gas and electricity, highlights governance challenges. Effective decision-making is essential to ensure that development projects benefit all regions, preventing disparities and fostering inclusive growth.

Corruption within the political elite is a persistent issue, leading to the exploitation of resources. Addressing corruption and ensuring a fair distribution of resources are vital to prevent elite exploitation and promote the welfare of the common people. Initiating projects that directly benefit the common masses is imperative. Income support programs, education initiatives, and infrastructure projects should be prioritized to uplift the overall well-being of the population.

Implementing income support programs, mirroring successful models like the *Be Nazir* *Income* *Support* *Program* , can provide financial assistance to those in need, contributing to poverty alleviation. Renewable energy initiatives, particularly the adoption of solar panels, can address the region’s energy challenges, especially in rural areas. Introducing *digital* *education* initiatives, such as tablets and *digital schools* , can bridge educational gaps, particularly in rural areas where access to traditional schooling might be limited.

Prioritizing *women’s* *empowerment* initiatives is crucial for social and economic progress. Creating opportunities for women in education and employment contributes to the overall development of the province. Advocacy for *human rights* is central to the protests, with a focus on demanding accountability and justice for alleged abuses by state and non-state actors. Calls for a more equitable distribution of wealth generated from the province’s resources are integral to the protests and insurgency. Unjust political representation and participation in decision-making processes also contribute to the unrest.

Understanding and addressing these multifaceted challenges require a comprehensive and inclusive approach. Engaging in open dialogue, promoting economic development, ensuring political representation, and respecting women’s rights are essential components of any sustainable solution for Balochistan. The active participation of women in these protests emphasizes the importance of a gender-inclusive perspective in addressing the region’s challenges.
